Jellyfish Have Eyes by Joram Piatigorsky. Fiction. Piatigorsky’s debut novel is a suspenseful thriller mixing the biological sciences – research into the surprisingly fascinating world of jellyfish eyes – and politics. The story provides a dive into the large government research world and the impacts of political winds and demands for immediate ‘practical value’ for taxpayer support – value in terms of cures, treatments, drugs – and the outcomes of impoverishing basic research which is critical for such cures. The story is told through the eyes of protagonist, Dr. Ricardo Sztein, a biological scientist perhaps reminiscent of the author himself, who battles the politicians and bureaucrats in his energetic search for scientific truth, but facing enormous odds comes to a sad end. It is a rollicking tale nevertheless, and deserves a wide audience.

About Friends of the Library
[/fusion_title][fusion_text columns=”” column_min_width=”” column_spacing=”” rule_style=”default” rule_size=”” rule_color=”” class=”” id=””]Friends of Libraries are non-profit, charitable groups formed to support libraries in their communities.
My local library is in Montgomery County, Maryland. I encourage my neighbors to find their local “Friends” group by visiting Friends of the Library, Montgomery County. (There are even Friends of the Library groups in the United Kingdom).
Don’t have time to join, but need a book for vacation? Check out the FOMC used bookstores in either Rockville or Silver Spring. Proceeds go to supporting our local libraries in Montgomery County.[/fusion_text][/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
